Survival tips

Making a first aid kit? Use travel sized drugs.

I was at target today getting some drugs for my first aid kit, i was getting some aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol and anti acid. There were these large 100 pill bottles for 10$, you're not gonna need 100 asprin pills in a survival scenario. I go to the travel section to find little packs of 10 pills for 1-2$. They're small, cheap, light, and only what you need. Much better than buying and lugging around big, bulky containers.

Master Your Attitude.

A survival situation is not the time to panic. You are more likely to survive a difficult situation if you focus on maintaining a positive, proactive attitude. • Develop a plan. • Inventory the resources you have. • Identify the critical tasks required for survival (water, shelter, warmth). • Determination: It’s often grit that separates a survivor from a non-survivor. • Recognize feelings are not facts. You may feel hopeless, but keep your thoughts focused on the tasks that need to be accomplished.

When packing first aid kits, be sure to make it easy to get to, preferably with one hand. Front or side pockets should be utilized. [Life Pro Tip].

It may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised how many folks fail to do this. Our minds tell us keep the “most frequently used” items easier to access, but really you should be prioritizing first aid kits. In the event there is an emergency, the last thing you should be doing is digging into the bottom of your backpack for first aid. A good way to test this is to make sure you can get to the first aid kit quickly with one arm behind your back. This simulates a cut/burn/bite on your hand and can help identify inefficiencies with your pack. This easy step can save you critical time when you really need it.

Shop at thrift stores frequently and keep an eye out for Survival/Outdoor gear. Often it's the first thing people clear out of their attics. Your survival budget will multiply a hundred fold, and you can find all your expensive gear for dirt cheap with a little patience.

Use zombies as weapons

Since DayZ Update 1.13 you can also use zombies as weapons. The trick is very simple: get a lot of zombies to follow you. Then you run in a zigzag pattern, so it is impossible for them to hit you. If you run up to another player now, some of your zombie friends will prefer to chase them and not you. This trick works best with runners, but also with all other zombies – the masses do it.

Player hitboxes

The hit zones or hitboxes of the player characters have been adjusted. The torso is now larger and arms and legs are correspondingly smaller. This makes body armor more effective on paper, but in return, it no longer protects arms and legs from DayZ 1.13. Hitting the thorax also causes more shock damage than before, but usually ensures the wearer’s survival. Leg hits will no longer cause additional shock should the legs break.

Disinfect your bandages

If you bleed in the current DayZ version, it will heal by itself after 5 minutes. But you shouldn’t wait for that. Joining them with bandages/scraps of fabric or sewing them up with a sewing kit is also not good: You should only use them once you have cleaned them with alcohol or disinfectant.

  • Stage 1 wound infection: rub iodine or rubbing alcohol on the wound
  • Stage 2 wound infection: take tetracycline tablets every 4 minutes, 4 times.

Scopes change the accuracy

It is known that telescopic sights or sights offer an advantage for the shooter at a distance. Since DayZ 1.13 it is enough to screw the scope onto the weapon – you don’t have to use it. Because even without looking through the visor, the accuracy of your weapon has increased many times over. In the case of a shotgun, however, this does not change the dispersion of the bullets!

Watch out for the zombies

No matter where you are, there is a different kind of zombie. In the spawn cities, you will meet the weakest, in the interior, you will meet the somewhat stronger ones, and in military bases, you will encounter a multitude of die-hard undead. Some of them can keep sprinting forever, some wear armor, and some scream for reinforcements. In addition, since the update, you can better block hits from zombies and cause them damage to the head more easily.
