Download the cruise line’s app before you board
We’re usually not a fan of downloading a new app if we don’t have to. But cruise line apps are extremely helpful. These programs include daily schedules, messaging to others on the ship, ship maps, and even tracking of your onboard spending account — all from your phone. We’d suggest everyone download the app before your cruise to use onboard. It’s much faster to download over wi-fi instead of using your cellular network or the ship’s Internet. Use Rome2Rio to make planning transfers a LOT easier
Rome2Rio is a fantastic website which lets you type in any two locations in the world and it will give you all the options of getting there, alongside the estimated cost. This is really good, not only for planning a travel route, but also for quickly working out a rough budget. The one thing I will say is to never take their prices as a firm answer. When it comes to actually booking, prices on your chosen days can be a lot different, so instead use them as a rough estimate.
Plan your routes (at least roughly) before you go on an adventure
This is more applicable to daily days when travelling. If you’re heading out for the day it’s a good idea to plan your route before you leave. This means you’ve got an idea of when places close, and ensure you’re closer to your hotel/hostel before dark. It also allows you to feel secure in where you’re going, so if someone tries to offer you advice that throws you off track, you can stick to the route you had planned. Of course things change, but it’s good to be prepared.
Turn your phone on airplane mode the second you board the ship
There are way too many horror stories of cruise passengers forgetting to turn off their phone’s data and then coming home to huge bills for international roaming. That’s why you should either turn your phone completely off or turn it on airplane mode to where it doesn’t use up data (but can still connect to wi-fi). It’s the simplest way to make sure there are no big surprises when you get your next phone bill.
Bundles Are Not For Your Cable Bill
If you’ve never done Vegas before, it can be quite a surprise when you tally up the unexpected expenses you’ve incurred at the end of your trip. Online services are available to bundle airfare, hotel rooms, rental cars, and shows into a neat package. It saves money and a bunch of fuss most of the time. It is always good to compare booking separately, however.
Pack light
It’s OK to wear the same t-shirt a few days in a row. Take half the clothes you think you will need…you won’t need as much as you think. Write down a list of essentials, cut it in half, and then only pack that! DON’T Assume All Roads Are Paved
Oops. I’d venture to say that most of us kind of forget this road trip tip, right? I know I did. If I saw the road on the map, I generally thought it was a legit road with something more than lose rocks to follow. Uh, no. Not so much! Don’t assume you won’t come across a bunch of gravel roads, particularly if you’re wanting to get a bit adventurous or take some of the less busy roads. If you’re riding a JUCY van like I was, I can confirm, they can handle it. Although, driving on gravel roads when they weren’t expected can be a bit stressful, not to mention it will cut into your time since you’ll be driving much slower than you thought.
Make extra copies of your passport and important documents.
Don’t forget to e-mail a copy to yourself too. You never know when you might need to have some sort of documentation with you and might not want to carry your original. Additionally, if your passport gets stolen having a copy will come in handy for your police report.
